Welcome to the Chubby Chicken

Hello and Welcome to the Chubby Chicken! I started this blog to share pictures of my handmade items that are available for sale in my Etsy shop (see links). I love using all kinds of media and materials to create...well.. things. All kinds of things. Items that will bring a smile to your face whether you are cuddling in to a handmade quilt or snuggling into a felted scarf. You could be smiling as you use a quilted dish drainer or humming a tune wearing your new apron. Perhaps a piece of jewelry? Or maybe something fanciful? Something that enchants you and just makes you smile. Whatever you are looking for I hope that you will find it in these pages.

So - go grab a cup of tea and settle in - and enjoy!

Free Form Pendant

I loved making this pendant. i melted my silver and poured it into a bucket of water. When the silver hit the water it solidified and this very cool, flowing shape came out. I looked at the shape and had the perfect amethyst to put in it. I set the amethyst using a silver prong setting.

Quarter Watch

This bracelet was a lot of fun to make. I actually flattened some quarters and then ecthed it with acid and resist. I drilled the holes and made copper connectors and a copper clasp - all hammered.

Wild Woman

I often joke to people that this pendant is actually a self portrait. It is a hammered copper disc. I cast the silver woman face using the lost wax process. Her wild hair is actually beaded silver wire. The woman's face and her hair are soldered onto the disc. all silver used is .925.

I Love You

This little sign language "I Love You" is made out of .925 silver. It is also made by the lost wax casting process. I modeled the hand using wax wire. I made it because my daughter, Sara Jane, when she was young, always use to flash me the "I Love You".

Silver Seahorse

The silver seahorse pendant I created using the lost wax process. It is made from .925 silver. I used an actual seahorse and cast it in wax then set it in plaster and sprued it. I then burnt the wax out using a slow fire process. Finally I melted the silver and used a centrifugal caster to finish.

Fiddle Head Pin

I did not know what fiddle heads were before I went to Maine. When I was in Maine I saw them all over the place. On pottery, embroidered on clothes, everywhere! I even saw them in their natural state and then cooked up as a side dish.

This copper and .925 silver pin was created by me to remember the fiddle heads. I cut out and hammered the copper background. Then I twisted silver wire to look like the fiddle heads. Finally I soldered the fiddle heads onto the copper.

ATCs at the Chubby Chicken

At the Chubby Chicken ATCs are a favorite. They are so cute - they can be used as a mood booster, for a quick pick me up or to express a sentiment.

This pin was created using copper and .925 silver. The moon section was hand cut and hammered. The face was created using the lost wax process. The face is attached to the moon by small copper "holders". I always think of the "lady" in the moon when I look at this pin!
